RYA Powerboat Instructor Course
Becoming an RYA Powerboat Instructor is an excellent first step on the instructional ladder, with an emphasis on how to teach relevant skills as well as learning how to successfully debrief students.
On successful completion you will be able to teach Powerboat Level 1 and Level 2 courses at RYA Training Centres and assess ICC students too. If you hold / obtain an RYA Safety Boat certificate, you will also be able to teach the RYA Safety Boat course.

Pre-course requirements
Prior to applying all students must;
- Be a minimum of age 18
- Hold a RYA First Aid or STCW Elementary First Aid certificate
- Hold a RYA Powerboat Level 2
- Successfully complete a health declaration form or medical questionnaire
- Hold five seasons experience of powerboating logged (preferably in range of boat types and sizes) OR one season for those who use powerboats as an integral part of their normal full-time occupation
- Be an RYA member
*Pre-Entry Skills Assessment
Students are required to attend a Pre-Entry Skills Assessment prior to commencing their instructor training course. This is a half-day assessment designed to ensure that candidates have the required practical skills and knowledge before progressing onto the instructor course.
The assessment is normally scheduled approximately two weeks prior to the instructor training course, allowing candidates sufficient time to address any areas that may require further development.
The cost of the Pre-Entry Assessment is £95.
The assessment can be booked separately or, if preferred, booked together with the RYA Powerboat Instructor course.
