Our two-day RYA Helmsman Course is designed as an introductory program for cruising in motorboats, equipping students with essential skills to function effectively as a crew member.

No previous experience is required as you will be taught how to steer the boat, handle it underway, maintain a lookout, and participate in all daily onboard routines, making it perfect for beginners or those keen to try motor cruising.

Is there an Age Limit?

Yes – candidates must be at least 16 years old to enrol in the Helmsman course however there is no upper age limit currently specified and we have previously welcomed participants from 16 to 85 years of age.

Whilst we tailor each course to accommodate the specific needs and abilities of our students, it is generally expected that candidates should be physically capable of handling ropes, steering, and contributing to daily tasks aboard.
